Former Tennis Star Radhika Yadav Shot Dead by Father in Gurugram Over Family Dispute; Academy Tensions Suspected Motive

Gurugram: In a shocking and deeply disturbing incident, former state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav, 25, was allegedly shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their home in Sector 57, Sushant Lok-II, on Thursday afternoon. The accused, 49-year-old Deepak Yadav, has been arrested and has confessed to the murder, Gurugram Police confirmed.

According to the police, the tragic incident unfolded around 2 PM while Radhika was in the kitchen on the first floor, preparing a special meal for her mother Manju Yadav’s birthday. Deepak Yadav reportedly entered the kitchen and fired five shots from his licensed .32 bore revolver, three of which struck Radhika in the back, killing her instantly.

A senior police official stated that the primary motive behind the killing appeared to be long-standing tension between father and daughter regarding a tennis academy Radhika had established. Deepak Yadav was allegedly unhappy with his daughter’s growing independence and success. Initial interrogation revealed that he felt belittled and “taunted” for being financially dependent on her income, a sentiment that had reportedly caused frequent family disputes.

“Radhika ran a tennis academy and was becoming increasingly self-sufficient. Her father was unhappy with her decisions and resented his growing irrelevance in the household,” said Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Singh. “The disagreement over the academy seems to have been the final trigger.”

At the time of the incident, only Radhika, her father, and her mother were at home. Manju Yadav, who was unwell and resting on the ground floor, rushed upstairs after hearing the gunshots, initially mistaking the sound for a pressure cooker blast. She found her daughter lying in a pool of blood.
