Bengaluru: In a significant development, a local court on Saturday formally framed charges against former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna in connection with a high-profile rape case that has rocked Karnataka’s political circles. The charges were framed following a thorough investigation into serious allegations made against Revanna.

Revanna has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:

  • Section 376(2)(k) – Rape by a person in a position of control or dominance over a woman
  • Section 376(2)(n) – Repeated rape on the same woman
  • Section 354(A) – Sexual harassment
  • Section 354(B) – Assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe
  • Section 354(C) – Voyeurism
  • Section 506 – Criminal intimidation
  • Section 201 – Causing disappearance of evidence

In addition, the former MP has also been booked under Section 66(e) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, which pertains to violation of privacy, specifically capturing, publishing or transmitting private images without consent.

The case has drawn significant public and political attention, particularly due to Revanna’s status as the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the son of senior JD(S) leader and former Karnataka minister H.D. Revanna.

The framing of charges marks a critical step in the legal proceedings, paving the way for a full-fledged trial. Sources said the court took cognizance of substantial evidence, including digital material, to support the charges against Revanna.
