Fearful of attacks from stray dogs, innocent residents of Anand Vihar Complex caught in cross-hairs of animal lovers and civic authorities

Mumbai: Residents of the Anand Vihar Complex, Kharegaon, Kalwa (East), Thane are caught in the cross-hairs of animal lovers on one hand and the apathetic civic authorities of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) over menace of stray dogs. The hapless residents of the housing society have been beseeching with the civic officials in taking action in stemming the recent spate of incidents of bites from stray dogs. Whie animal lovers are up in arms with the complainants as well as the civic officials intending to take action.

Sushant Bambarkar, a resident of the housing complex narrated a harrowing experience of a domestic help Mangal Kadam (56 yrs) who was attacked by a stray dog on December 12 while coming towards our building entrance gate. She missed the stray dogs biting serious circumstances.

Prior to this incident, on December 10 a dog sitting at Exit Gate No.2 had bitten Amit Desai who had gone to drop his daughter to board the school bus. He too also missed the dog bite due to the sturdy sole of his shoes.

Later the dog biting incident happened near their building No. 11 entrance with Shraddha Kale on December 18, while she was coming back with her husband from morning walk, one of the dogs from the same group while running behind the Stray Animal Feeders motorcycle has bitten on her right leg.

“If the Stray Animals are sterilized as per the TMC Veterinary Department protocol, then how come the population is increasing in our Anand Vihar Complex? Do the Stray Animal Feeders from Anand Vihar Complex have filed ACG Application Form? We, are very sad to know, being the supreme authority to take appropriate action officially, your representatives (TMC) who visited our Anand Vihar Complex with the Dog Van on December 18 informed that higher authorities were pressurizing madam not to entertain and act against nuisance creating stray animal complaints from our Anand Vihar Complex. We would like to know who is the respected pressuring higher authority? Who applies pressure on the TMC administration as well as on local police station authorities thereby endangering the safety & security of Anand Vihar residents?”, questioned Sushant Bambarkar.

On December 15, residents of the Anand Vihar Complex undertook a silent protest for #Justice for Anand Vihar # Freedom to LIVE Fearlessly against the bullying/threatening/abusing done to the Anand Vihar Federation Committee Members, Watchman’s on duty and Residents of Anand Vihar Complex by the so-called Animal Activist and their sponsoring NGOs who don’t disclose their NGO Identity or Identity Cards.

Sushant Bambarkar wanted to know whether these NGOs are registered? Are they exploiting the law enacted by the Government of India? The unknown respected pressurizing authority is deliberately not allowing our own government/local authority officials to do their work efficiently, added Bambarkar.

He has further requested the civic authorities to order a transparent investigation on an open dais or in their complex to hear both sides of the coin so that true facts can are revealed. He also requested the authorities to visit our Anand Vihar Complex to witness the fear in the school going children, senior citizens and residents due to the increasing stray dog attacks, biting cases & their increasing population in our vicinity.
