Faridabad: The Faridabad Police have arrested Mukesh Narwat, the alleged mastermind of a criminal extortion racket that involved filing false rape cases against innocent men to extort large sums of money.

Narwat reportedly extorted ₹33 lakhs from a Delhi-based businessman, Dhiraj Gupta, after orchestrating a fake rape case through a woman named Pinki, who worked at his spa. Based on her false allegations, Dhiraj was arrested and spent five months in jail. Later, she retracted her statement.

In November 2023, Dhiraj approached Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, noted men’s rights activist and founder of Ekam Nyaay Foundation, seeking help. Bhardwaj took the matter to senior authorities, including the former Haryana Home Minister and the DGP, requesting the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.

In June 2024, an SIT was finally constituted. Their investigation revealed that the entire rape allegation was fabricated, and that Pinki was not even present at the location where she claimed the incident occurred.

An FIR was registered in September 2024, and after months of investigation, Mukesh Narwat was arrested by the Faridabad Police. However, Pinki remains absconding.

Speaking on the arrest, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj stated, “Dhiraj had not even seen the woman who accused him. Yet, he was arrested immediately. His family was then asked to pay ₹50 lakhs. They ended up paying ₹33 lakhs. Just two days later, the woman gave an affidavit stating he didn’t rape her. This shows how dangerously easy it has become to misuse rape laws in India.

I am relieved that Faridabad Police has finally arrested Mukesh. But I strongly believe this extortion ring may include complicit police officials. I hope further investigation brings them to light and justice is served.

At Ekam Nyaay Foundation, we are committed to fighting for justice for men like Dhiraj who become innocent victims of false accusations. I urge anyone facing similar harassment to approach higher authorities and not lose hope.”

The case has sparked renewed concern about the misuse of rape laws, and the urgent need to protect both victims of sexual violence and innocents falsely implicated. Further investigations are ongoing.
