Fake news alert: No army is being deployed in Mira Bhayander or in Mumbai

Mumbai: Fake news that is being circulated on the social media raising false alarm that, ‘entire Mumbai military lockdown for 10 days from Saturday. Please stock everything. Only milk and medicine will be available’.

No army personnel are being deployed in the city. Even in Mira Bhayander, the fake news has spread like wildfire. The Mumbai Police had to issue a tweet clarifying that there was no deployment of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) being made and that there was no need for the citizens to panic as supplies of all essential supplies are adequate and normal.

Thenews21 spoke with Mira Bhayander Municipal Commissioner Chandrakant Dange about this fake news and asked him is army really being deployed in the twin city, he said, “This is fake and we have not thought of deploying the army as there is no need. If anyone circulates this fake news strict police action will be taken.”

When asked about the new orders of lockdown in Mira Bhayander he said, it will be released soon.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray has hinted that the lockdown may be extended till the end of May, especially in the Mumbai and Pune regions. Both cities have contributed to 90 per cent of Maharashtra’s cases so far. The extended lockdown announced by the Home Ministry ends on May 17.-By Salman Khan
