Devendra Fadnavis Targets Uddhav Thackeray Over Nashik Water Supply Row

Mumbai :

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday intensified the political attack on the former Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray over the controversial decision to supply water to Shri Shivnika Sansthan, linking it to the ongoing row involving Nashik astrologer Ashok Kharat.

Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said that merely having photos or meetings with someone cannot be grounds for action, but raised serious questions over the decisions taken by the previous government.

Who Approved Water Supply From 40 Km Away?

Fadnavis questioned the MVA government’s decision, asking, “What action should be taken against those who called a special cabinet meeting and supplied water from 40 km away? Who laid a 40 km pipeline?”

He stressed that these facts are already known and the issue should not be reduced to political mudslinging, as it involves serious concerns related to women’s dignity.

Is There Selective Politics In The Case?

Taking a swipe at the opposition, Fadnavis alleged selective outrage in the controversy.

“Those speaking about ministers remain silent on others. Why this selective approach? Some people only want to do politics,” he said, adding that his government is committed to ensuring justice for every affected woman.

What Is The Water Supply Controversy?

The row revolves around claims that around 39 lakh litres of water from the Darna Dam was supplied to Shri Shivnika Sansthan in Mirgaon during the tenure of the Uddhav Thackeray-led government.

The issue has gained prominence amid allegations linked to Nashik astrologer Ashok Kharat, triggering a political storm in Maharashtra.

Why Did Rupali Chakankar Resign?

Fadnavis also backed the resignation of Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar, stating that it was appropriate given her alleged closeness to the accused.

“In such a situation, justice would not be served. She acknowledged this and resigned,” he said.

What Did Uddhav Thackeray Say?

Responding to the allegations, Thackeray challenged the government to conduct a full investigation.

“I have no objection — investigate everyone. Let us see how deep the water goes. Whether it’s a village godman or someone linked to politics, action must be taken,” he said.

He further added, “If water was diverted, find out where it went. Punish the guilty. But ensure that action is actually taken after the investigation.”

Political Battle Intensifies In Maharashtra

With strong statements from both sides, the controversy has escalated into a major political flashpoint in Maharashtra. The issue of water supply, alleged links, and demands for accountability are expected to dominate the political discourse in the coming days.
