For the sake of God, Country and Religion’ – don’t just say it, Work for it

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader MLA Adv Ashish Shelar, on Tuesday, made a public appeal to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to immediately expel Nawab Malik from the state cabinet for his involvement in financial transactions with the handlers of underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim. Else, the BJP will intensify its agitation, he warned.
BJP leader MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar addressed a press conference at the Mumbai BJP office on Tuesday once again drawing attention towards one of the serious matters in the state – the arrest of Nawab Malik by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and demanded his expulsion from the state cabinet.
Shelar said that since the past few days, the BJP is demanding that the chief minister must expel Nawab Malik, a minister in the state who has been accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002 (PMLA) and arrested by the ED. He must be asked to resign from the position.
“The chief minister must stand firm for the well-being of the country. The chief minister need not bow to the pressure by NCP President Sharad Pawar. ‘Zukenge nahi’ (Will not bow in front of anyone) – is not something that should only be said, it needs to be practised,” said Shelar.
BJP leader Shelar said that now since the chief minister has appointed one of his favoured officials as the Commissioner of Police (CP) of Mumbai, he must issue direct orders to the CP to file complaints against Dawood, his accomplices and leaders like Nawab Malik who enjoy political clout.
MLA Shelar said that the BJP is demanding an inquiry into how many leaders have been involved in the financial dealings with Dawood and his accomplices, especially in matters concerning the Godiwala compound or the recent case that came to light at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). Criminal cases must be filed against all those involved, he demanded.
He also appealed to the Maharashtra government to co-operate in the investigations being carried out by the Central Investigating agencies for the benefit of the country.
“For the sake of God, Country and Religion” – stop just talking about it, now is the time to act on it. Do not bow down to anyone. The BJP will keep aside all its political issues and will co-operate with the government. From the three-party alliance government, we can expect something good only from one party and hence we have expectations from chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. We are confident that he will act accordingly,” said Shelar.
MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar also said that demand to this effect will be made in the forthcoming budget session.
Some people are trying to mislead the public by stating that the arrest of Nawab Malik is politically motivated and hence the truth of this matter must be brought in front of the people, said MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar while presenting the chronology and the background of the matter.
1) The first case in this regard was registered in 2017 at Kasarwadavali police station in Thane. The case was filed against Iqbal Kaskar and Mumtaz Sheikh for possessing property and in ranson cases. Thereafter on September 26, 2017, ED registered ECR.
2) Then came the case of Iqbal Mirchi. In 2019, ED registered ECR in Iqbal Mirchi’s case.
3) On February 3, 2022, an FIR was registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against the accused in the bomb blasts including Dawood, Chhota Shakeel, Javed Chikna and Tiger Memon.
“The ED is conducting a proper investigation into all these three cases and today all those who are making claims ‘ukhad diya’ (uprooted) need to know about it. These people who are only interested in making statements need to know what the BJP government at the centre is doing. The government has already initiated these inquiries since 2017 as it truly wants to ‘ukhad’ (uproot) Dawood,” said the BJP legislator.
Aid to terrorists, money laundering, collusion with criminals, usurpation of official properties and nexus with international terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Al Qaeda (AQ) are being investigated. Then why is the state government opposing investigations into these matters? Why is the state government obstructing these investigations? Why the Chief Minister is tight-lipped on this issue, questioned MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar. If someone says that ‘it is a government of true men’, they better behave like one, he criticised, he added.
What is the judicial role and priority of the government?
It is unclear as to what is the priority and the judicial role of this alliance government in the state? When Minister Sanjay Rathore was accused, his resignation was accepted. Now when serious allegations have been levelled against Nawab Malik, no one seems to be accepting his resignation. When Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje was on a hunger strike in Azad Maidan, the government failed to pay heed to his demand till his health started deteriorating. But on the other hand, all the ministers collectively came in support of Nawab Malik when he was arrested. While on one hand nobody was bothered about Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje’s health, on the other hand care is being taken to ensure Nawab Malik receives proper medication, Shelar pointed.
Does this Thackeray government take special care of people depending on their surnames? Does the government take special care of people of certain surnames as they belong to a certain community? Are you asking to stop the investigations only because the people involved are Dawood, Iqbal Kaskar, Hassina Parkar, Javed Fruit, Sarkar Shahwali Khan, Chota Shakeel? questioned MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.
