Mumbai: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday strongly criticised opposition parties and state leaders who have openly declared their non-compliance with the Waqf Amendment Act, asserting that such statements reflect a disregard for the Constitution and the authority of Parliament.

Speaking about the political situation in Murshidabad, West Bengal, Rijiju took aim at the Congress and its allies, including Chief Ministers of certain states, accusing them of fostering lawlessness. “The condition that they have created in Murshidabad, West Bengal… Chief Ministers, Congress and their party allies, whoever say that they will not obey the law made by the Parliament, do not believe in the Constitution of the country,” said Rijiju.

The Union Minister, who served for years in opposition before joining the government in 2014, underscored the sanctity of parliamentary law. “We became ministers for the first time in 2014, we have worked all our life sitting in the opposition, we never said that we will not obey the law of the Parliament,” he said, adding that the conduct of certain opposition leaders is “going to cause a lot of harm to the country.”
