Thane: Eleven health employees working at Mira Bhayander’s Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Maternity Hospital have tested positive for Covid-19. As per media reports they have been admitted to Bhayander’s Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Covid-19 Hospital. However, reports of two of the patients are yet to come.
“Simple masks instead of N-95 have been provided to the staff of maternity wards, dialysis center, and hospital staff. Gloves, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) kits are not provided in adequate numbers. We are using the same kits for the whole day or two. Yet, we are doing our job without complaining. We are working at high risk here,” said an employee while speaking to MiBha times on the condition of anonymity.
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi hospital converted to a Covid-19 hospital and due to this maternity ward was shut and this led to an increase in the number of maternity cases at Indira Gandhi Maternity Hospital.
“However, Covid-19 testing of these incoming patients has not been carried out. Therefore, the risk of Coronavirus infection has increased as safety equipment is not provided to the employees,” said the employee to MiBha times.
The dialysis center was forced to shut down after a Covid-19 patient was sent here for dialysis from Joshi Hospital. “Also the staff got infected after they bodily lifted the positive patient as the elevator was shut down. The negligence of the officials is increasing the stress on the employees,” he added further.
