The Commission has directed that all officers assume charge immediately, with a compliance report to be submitted by 11 am on March 19.

Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle Continues

This is part of a larger administrative overhaul by the Election Commission after announcing poll dates. Earlier, the EC had transferred key officials including Chief Secretary Nandini Chakravorty and Home Secretary Jagdish Prasad Meena.

The Commission also removed DGP Peeyush Pandey and Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar, underlining its strict approach towards election management.

Two-Phase Polling Schedule Announced

The high-stakes elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases—on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

Focus on Free and Fair Elections

The latest transfers highlight the Election Commission’s strategy to deploy neutral and effective officers in sensitive regions. With Murshidabad, Jalpaiguri, and Presidency ranges considered crucial from a security standpoint, the reshuffle is seen as a proactive step to prevent any law and order issues.

As political activity intensifies in the state, the EC’s firm administrative actions indicate that it is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
