In a dramatic turn of events, Bihar braces for yet another political upheaval as whispers of defections from the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gain traction. Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM) Chief Jitan Ram Manjhi hinted at the impending shift, suggesting that the political landscape in Bihar is far from settled.
“Ek Khela ho chuka hai. Abhi bada khela hona baaki hai. (One game is over, another is yet to begin.) Around four MLAs, two each from the Congress and the RJD, may join the NDA in the coming days,” Manjhi disclosed in an interview with ANI, foreshadowing the potential realignment.
Manjhi commended Nitish Kumar’s decision to rejoin the NDA, citing concerns over the state’s law-and-order situation. He remarked, “Nitish Kumarji did a good thing joining the NDA. He had been in a fix for the past few days. He had also pointed out the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Bihar. So, he joined hands with the NDA and formed the government. This was done in the interest of the people of Bihar.”
The recent political maneuvering follows Kumar’s resignation as Chief Minister on January 28, attributed to his dissatisfaction with being sidelined in the opposition alliance. However, the NDA, under Kumar’s leadership, emerged victorious in the subsequent floor test, securing the support of 129 MLAs.
Adding to the intrigue, three RJD MLAs, Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi, and Prahlad Yadav, defected to the NDA in the State Assembly, further bolstering the ruling coalition’s position.
With the JD(U) commanding 45 MLAs and its allies, the BJP and the Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S), contributing 79 and four legislators respectively, the NDA’s strength stands at 128 MLAs, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 122 in the 243-member assembly.
As Bihar braces for potential political realignments, the dynamics of governance and opposition in the state remain fluid, promising further twists and turns in the days to come.
