The Enforcement Directorate (Enforcement Directorate) on Wednesday conducted extensive raids at multiple locations linked to Ashok Mittal, Rajya Sabha MP of the Aam Aadmi Party, triggering a fresh political controversy in Delhi and Punjab.
The action comes just days after Mittal was appointed Deputy Leader of the AAP in the Rajya Sabha, replacing Raghav Chadha following an internal party reshuffle.
Raids Across Multiple Locations in Punjab and Haryana
According to reports, ED teams carried out searches at around 8–9 locations, including premises in Gurugram, Punjab, and other associated properties. The raids covered Mittal’s residence, properties linked to his son, and a farmhouse.
Officials also reached premises connected to Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, owned by Mittal, as part of the ongoing investigation.
Probe Linked to Financial Irregularities
Sources indicate that the investigation is related to alleged financial irregularities and fund-related transactions. ED officials are currently examining documents, digital records, and financial statements seized during the searches.
The operation is still underway, and authorities have not released an official detailed statement regarding specific charges.
Political Flashpoint: Punjab CM Reacts
Reacting sharply to the raids, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the central government of using investigative agencies for political purposes ahead of elections.
He claimed that the raids were part of a broader strategy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bharatiya Janata Party) to influence the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
“BJP begins preparations for Punjab elections… ED raids at the home and university of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal… typical Modi style,” Mann posted on X.
In a further remark, he added, “We are not leaves that will fall from branches, tell the storms to stay within their limits,” intensifying the political exchange.
