EC team reviews poll preparedness in Punjab

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra accompanied by Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra Pandey and Deputy Election Commissioners Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Nitesh Vyas and T Sreekanth, and Director General Ms Sheyphali B Sharan yesterday reviewed poll preparedness in Punjab at Chandigarh.

News agency reports on first day ( Wednesday) of two days visit the team of Election Commission of India led by CEC Sushil Chandra held one-on-one meeting with representatives of National and State level recognised political parties.

The spokesman of Punjab Chief Electoral Officer said, the representatives from All India Trinamool Congress Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Janta Party, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Nationalist Congress Party, Aam Aadmi Party and Shiromani Akali Dal attended the meeting.

The Commission heard the concerns of the representatives of political parties and assured that issues raised by them would be deliberated and examined.

Later, the Commission held a meeting with Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab S Karuna Raju, State Police Nodal Officer and Central Armed Police Forces to review the preparations for the forthcoming Assembly Elections. The commission also held meeting with representatives of various Enforcement agencies to know about security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of elections.
Election Commission flagged off Voter Awareness Vans for Punjab from Lalit Hotel at Chandigarh Today morning . In the evening, the commission will address a press conference on poll preparedness in Punjab also.
