Dr Ravindra Bhoyar rebels against BJP, gets candidature from Congress against Bawankule in Nagpur MLC polls

Mumbai: Dumping ideology and allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the drop of a hat, Dr Ravindra alias Chhotu Bhoyar hopped on to the Congress bandwagon and even secured its nomination for the Nagpur Local Authorities constituency elections in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. All this in a matter of a day!

The Indian National Congress (INC) too was quick to announce the name of Dr Ravindra alias Chhotu Bhoyar as the party candidate in the biennial election to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Nagpur Local Authority constituency.

The three-time corporator of the BJP, rebelled against the party on Monday and by late night the Congress announced his name as party candidate against BJP’s official candidate Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Dr Bhoyar’s family is close to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent body of the BJP. Dr Vikas Dangare, uncle of Dr Bhoyar has close relations with RSS leaders apart from BJP stalwart Lal Krishna Advani and Sadhvi Uma Bharati. Dr Dangare is the OBC face of Brahmin dominated RSS.

Meanwhile, the Central leadership of the BJP gave the candidature to Bawankule for the MLC polls from Nagpur local authority constituency. Bawankule was denied a ticket in the 2019 state assembly polls which gave the BJP a shocking setback by losing 12 assembly seats in Eastern Vidarbha region.

Bawankule hails from Teli – OBC (the backwards class) community which dominates the Vidarbha region. By ensuring the political rehabilitation of Bawankule, BJP is trying to assuage the OBC community in the region.

Dr Bhoyar is Kunbi which is also an OBC caste. But, compared to Bawankule, Dr Bhoyar is considered to be a weak candidate. The Teli community is more in numbers than the Kunbi and that will help Bawankule to get entry into the Upper House.

All municipal corporators, municipal councillors, Zilla Parishad members and Panchayat Samiti President (Sabhapati) are the voters in this election.

The election will be held on December 10 where the results will be declared on December 14 .
