Washington, D.C.: In a bold statement shared on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Apple must bring its iPhone production back to the United States — or face a 25% import tax on every iPhone sold in the country.

Trump said he had personally informed Apple CEO Tim Cook of his stance, making it clear that “iPhones sold in the U.S. should also be made in the U.S.” He added that if Apple continues to manufacture iPhones in countries like China and India, “Apple will have to pay the big tax.”

Currently, Apple assembles a significant portion of its iPhones in China, with India emerging as a growing hub for production in recent years. The shift to India was largely driven by the ongoing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. However, Trump’s latest demand aims to reverse that trend, as part of his larger agenda to bring manufacturing jobs back to American soil.

Trump’s tough talk isn’t limited to Apple. In the past, he has taken aim at retail giants such as Amazon and Walmart, urging them to prioritize U.S.-based manufacturing. He believes that reshoring production will bolster the American economy and create more domestic jobs.

“Bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. is the only way to ensure long-term economic security,” Trump has often argued.
