Thackeray travelled from Nagpur to Bhojapur in Bhandara and met and consoled the Behere family who lost their two-month-old girl in the incident.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, the chief minister said that he met the kin of the victims with folded hands and he could not find words to console them.

CM also informed that the fire safety audit of all government hospitals will be done soon. He said last year, the state health infrastructure was under a lot of stress due to COVID-19. He said the probe will determine if there was any negligence.

Ten babies died after the fire broke out on Saturday at the Special Newborn Care Unit of the four-storeyed district hospital in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district town, about 900 km from the state capital Mumbai.

The fire broke out in the early hours in the outborn section of the hospital. The outborn section is for children born elsewhere but referred to the government hospital for special treatment.
