District Development Commissioner Conducts On-Spot Assessment of Flash Flood-Hit Areas in Kupwara

District Development Commissioner (DDC) of Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan (IAS), visited the areas of Hayhama, Kalaroos, and Lolab on Sunday to conduct an on-the-spot inspection of the situation arising from the flash floods.

The District Development Commissioner, accompanied by officers from concerned departments, visited Chalgund, Gundisana, Zadipora, Trumnard, Batpora, and other areas where flash floods have caused damage to standing crops and various infrastructures, including roads, culverts, electric lines, and PHE lines.

DDC urged the locals to take precautionary measures and avoid venturing close to Nallahs, while also stressing the importance of vigilance for the concerned departments in case of any emergency.

On this occasion, the DDC stated, “Our field teams have reached the affected spots. Restoration and evacuation work is in progress, and losses are being assessed.”

The DDC also advised the people living close to Nallahs/Streams to refrain from venturing out until the weather improves and water levels decrease.

Furthermore, the DDC interacted with the PRIs and the public to listen to their grievances.

During the visit to Kalaroos, the DDC assessed the situation where a culvert was damaged by the flash floods.

Later, in Lolab, the DDC visited Krusan, Shalgund, Brunut Takia, Khurhama, and other areas to appraise the flood situation caused by flash floods triggered by Nallah Khurhama. The Vice Chairman of the District Development Council Kupwara, Haji Farooq Mir, ACD Kupwara, Hilal Mir, SDM Lolab, Ijaz Ahmad Bhat, and other officers accompanied the District Development Commissioner during the visit to Khurhama in Lolab.

The Vice Chairman of the District Development Council Kupwara informed the District Development Commissioner about the situation and requested an assessment of losses and compensation for the affected farmers.
