Develop Economic Hubs on Government Land Near Infrastructure Projects – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Versova–Bhayandar Coastal Road Project Reviewed

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today directed authorities to identify government-owned land located near major infrastructure projects and develop them into new economic hubs on the lines of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting of the Versova to Bhayandar Northbound Coastal Road Project held at Sahyadri Guest House.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the project must be executed while ensuring mangrove conservation. He instructed officials to develop additional mangrove zones as compensation for any affected areas. All necessary project approvals must be obtained concurrently to avoid delays, and the entire project should be completed within the stipulated deadline of December 2028, he added.

Fadnavis informed that the project will require around 165 hectares of land, a majority of which is government-owned. He directed the concerned agencies to complete the land transfer process within 15 days. He also asked that land belonging to the Department of Fisheries at Versova be acquired through proper follow-up procedures.

In addition, the coastal road stretch between Mad and Versova should be developed in coordination with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), he said.

To generate revenue for future road repairs and maintenance, the Chief Minister proposed the creation of a dedicated advertising policy for the coastal road stretch, including hoardings and flex banners. He recommended appointing an advisor for the policy’s implementation.

Versova–Bhayandar Coastal Road Project Overview:
• Main Coastal Road Length: 26 km
• Total Length including Link Roads: 63 km
