In his address to the Maharashtra legislative assembly on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared significant updates concerning various airports and related matters across the state.

He announced that the Navi Mumbai airport is set to commence operations in the upcoming year. Additionally, the state government is actively working on establishing an authority dedicated to efficient airport management. A final decision on this matter is expected within the next three months.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan expressed concerns about the limited number of operational airports in the state, with only 7 out of 18 currently functioning. He emphasized the growing necessity of air travel and expressed disappointment regarding the limited connectivity from Mumbai to other cities within the state.

During the deliberations, CLP leader Balasaheb Thorat drew attention to the challenges faced by Shirdi airport, including the absence of facilities for night landing and the need for improved amenities. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis assured the members that the issues concerning night landing would be addressed by engaging with Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Moreover, he acknowledged the necessity of constructing a new terminal building at Shirdi airport and assured the assembly that proper amenities would be provided.
