Prayagraj: A special MP/MLA court on Monday deferred the hearing in a defamation case against Leader of Opposition and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi to March 6. The delay occurred as the complainant’s lawyer, Santosh Kumar Pandey, failed to appear in court.

Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, stated that the complainant had been cross-examined on February 11, and Monday was initially set for the next hearing. However, with the absence of the complainant’s legal counsel, the matter was postponed.

The case originates from Gandhi’s alleged objectionable remark about Home Minister Amit Shah during the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. The complaint was filed by local BJP leader Purnesh Mishra from Hanumanganj, under Kotwali Dehat police station, who claimed that Gandhi’s statement was indecent and hurt his sentiments.
