Dahi Handi Festivities: Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai Police Issue Traffic Advisories to Manage Congestion

Mumbai: As Maharashtra gears up for grand Dahi Handi celebrations, traffic police in Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai have rolled out a series of advisories to manage expected congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement on Friday, August 16.

In Thane, restrictions have been placed on key routes likely to witness heavy crowding. Roads including Kolset Road, Ram Maruti Road, Pipeline Road, and stretches connecting Balkum Naka, Dadlani Chowk, and Yashaswinagar will face diversions. Signage boards have been installed to guide commuters through alternative routes. Officials estimate that nearly 40,000–50,000 devotees, along with prominent political leaders, are expected to gather for the festivities, prompting the strict measures.

Navi Mumbai too is bracing for disruptions due to Janmashtami celebrations at the ISKCON Temple in Kharghar’s Sector 23. Traffic police have announced both diversions and no-parking restrictions in the area from August 15 to 17.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade said vehicle movement will be barred along the stretch from Central Park Service Road to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company office in Sector 23, with exceptions made only for police and emergency services.

For smoother access, vehicles approaching from Hiranandani Signal will be diverted through Utsav Chowk, Gram Vikas Bhavan Chowk, and Green Heritage Circle to reach Central Park Service Road.
