Cyclone Yaas has further weakened after entering the Chotanagpur plateau area in Jharkhand. Weather department presently mentioned that the Cyclone is now slowly progressing northwards and will gradually weaken into a depression. Almost 21 districts of the state are witnessing intermittent rainfall due to the cyclonic effect while gusty winds are blowing at a speed of 20-30 km per hour in the south-western parts of the state. State Disaster Management department, local District administration, municipal corporations and NDRF teams are on work mode to restore power failures, clearing of road blockades and water logging at several places in the affected districts. Weather Department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorm as the cyclone progresses towards Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar districts.
Bihar has been put on high amid the forecast that cyclone Yaas. According to Met department currently the Wind speed over the whole Bihar is in between 20-25km/hr and Gusting up to 30-35Km/hr. Meanwhile IMD has said that Cyclone Yaas is very likely to move further North-westwards and weaken gradually into a depression during next 12 hours.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed all District Magistrates (DMs) to remain on high in view of cyclone . Mr Kumar said 22 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in districts adjoining Jharkhand and West Bengal to meet any eventuality. The effect of Yaas can be witnessed in districts of Katihar, Khagaria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul, Nawada, Lakhisarai, Aurangabad, Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Vaishali.
