New Delhi: In a swift security escalation, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken charge of protecting Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta following a shocking assault at her Civil Lines office. The Union government has reportedly accorded the Chief Minister Z category security, the highest level of protection for elected officials in India.
The move comes after a 41-year-old man from Rajkot, Gujarat, allegedly attacked Gupta during her public ‘Jan Sunvai’ program on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said the accused, identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimjibhai Sakariya, pulled the Chief Minister’s hair, pushed her, and even slapped her before being apprehended.
Security officials confirmed that along with the CRPF deployment, Delhi Police personnel will continue to assist in safeguarding the Chief Minister at all official and public appearances.
