Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh has issued a red alert after two suspected Covid-19 cases surfaced this week, rekindling concerns over a potential resurgence of the virus in the state. The first confirmed case was reported in Visakhapatnam, where a woman tested positive. A second case was noted on Friday in Kadapa, though health officials are awaiting final confirmation.

In response, the state government has released a public advisory urging citizens to maintain vigilance, particularly those over 60 and pregnant women, who are encouraged to stay indoors. The advisory also recommends avoiding large gatherings such as prayer meetings and social events.

Speaking to the media, a senior official from the Directorate of Public Health and Family Welfare said, “The patient in Visakhapatnam is improving and there is no immediate cause for alarm.”

With rising concerns, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare has reiterated the importance of following basic hygiene practices—frequent handwashing, wearing masks, and covering the mouth while sneezing or coughing. The public has also been advised to avoid touching the face unnecessarily and to use face masks in crowded or poorly ventilated areas.

On Monday, a high-level review meeting was held under the leadership of the Director General of Health Services. The session included participation from experts at the National Centre for Disease Control, Emergency Medical Relief division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and central government hospitals. The panel reviewed preparedness measures and discussed strategies to prevent further transmission.

Although the situation remains under control, health officials are not taking any chances. Surveillance has been stepped up across the state, particularly in urban centers.
