Corona scare, no need to panic, not even single patient positive in Maharashtra: Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Even as the world is gripped in Coronavirus scare, the situation in Maharashtra is not at all as serious. The chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has assured that state is ready and prepared to handle the situation. “The confusion about the virus is rife. But the situation is under control. We need to be vigilant for next 10-15 days,” Thackeray said.

He said that there are seven types of Coronavirus. While six of them are mild, only one is moderate. “The deadly virus that is causing deaths in different countries, is not found in the state. We are prepared to handle any situation. The number of Corina virus testing centers have been started at Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur. All the passengers arriving from other countries at Mumbai airport are screened for the infection,” Thackeray said.

Referring to the rush to buy N95 mask, health secretary Dr Pradeep Vyas said, “The symptoms of the virus include cough, fever muscle pain and stuffy nose. The news of one patient found positive for the infection at Solapur are baseless. There is no need to panic as only 3% of the infected people will need hospitalisation as it is self remitting illness which gets cured in 10-15 days.” People above the age group of 50 years are more vulnerable as compared to the younger ones, he added. All the collectors in the state are on alert and FDA officials are vigilant to prevent black marketing of masks.

Referring to the reports of corona infections in the state, Dr Vyas said, “A Nagpur resident was travelling with he person found Corona virus positive. We tracked him and was screened for the infection. But he proved negative. We can assure that there is not even a single person tested positive for Corona virus.”

Civic body has roped in major private hospitals for screening of patients and isolation if needed. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pravin Pardeshi, “All the 70,000 passengers who arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, everyday, will be screend for the virus. Apart from this, the civic body will undertake awareness drive on the prevention if the disease.”
