In a significant development for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has finalized a seat-sharing deal with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. As per the agreement, the Congress will contest on 17 seats, while the remaining 63 seats will be contested by the Samajwadi Party and other parties aligned with the INDIA alliance.

The announcement was made by SP president Akhilesh Yadav, who will have the authority to decide the candidates for the 63 seats allocated to his party and its allies.

The seats allocated to the Congress include Rae Bareli, Amethi, Kanpur Shahar, Fatehpur Sikri, Bansgaon, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Mahahrajganj, Varanasi, Amroha, Jhansi, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Deoria.

The decision comes after days of negotiation, with Akhilesh Yadav emphasizing the importance of a strong alliance with the Congress for the success of the opposition bloc in Uttar Pradesh. Although he did not join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi on Monday, Yadav expressed confidence in the alliance, stating that “all is well that ends well.”

The SP and the Congress are key partners in the INDIA bloc, a coalition formed by opposition parties to challenge the ruling BJP in the upcoming general elections. With the seat-sharing agreement finalized, both parties are gearing up for a united front to contest the polls and present a formidable challenge to their political opponents.
