In a show of solidarity with the farmers protesting in Delhi, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced the party’s full support for their ongoing march to Parliament. The protest, which has gathered considerable momentum, has been bolstered by significant backing from political leaders, including the Vice President and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Taking to X, Ramesh shared, “Farmers are marching to Parliament today. Their protest has received a huge booster dose after getting support from the Vice President and the Honourable Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Farmers and their organizations are continuously agitating.”

Ramesh stressed the urgent need for reforms in agricultural policies, including a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He called for MSP to be fixed at 1.5 times the comprehensive cost of cultivation, in line with the recommendations made by the MS Swaminathan Commission.

Additionally, Ramesh called for a comprehensive restructuring of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and advocated for the establishment of an independent agency to regulate agricultural trade policies. His remarks come as farmers continue to demand significant changes in the government’s agricultural approach to ensure fair prices for their produce and a more robust support system.

The ongoing protests, which have garnered nationwide attention, reflect the frustration of farmers seeking long-term policy reforms and better conditions in the agricultural sector. Congress’s backing highlights the growing political support for these demands, as the farmers march on to make their voices heard in the heart of the nation’s capital.
