In a shocking incident near Coimbatore International Airport, Tamil Nadu, a 20-year-old college student was allegedly gang-raped by three men late Sunday night. The Coimbatore Police, led by Commissioner Saravana Sundar, confirmed the arrest of the accused — identified as Guna, Karuppasamy, and Karthik alias Kaleeswaran.

According to police reports, the trio kidnapped the student and sexually assaulted her after attacking her friend near the airport area. The victim’s friend later regained consciousness and informed authorities, prompting a swift police operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.

In a dramatic turn of events, the three accused were shot in the leg during an encounter when they allegedly tried to escape police custody. A head constable also sustained injuries during the exchange. All injured persons have been taken to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment.

The horrifying crime has sparked widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu. BJP Mahila Morcha National President Vanathi Srinivasan visited the crime scene, slamming police claims that the location was “remote.” She pointed out that the area is surrounded by residential colonies and has long been a hub for anti-social activities.

“This is not a remote location. It’s part of the city, and yet, such crimes are happening here. The police and local authorities must take full responsibility for ensuring safety,” she said.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna also condemned the assault, demanding immediate justice and stronger safety measures for women. He urged authorities to ensure public spaces are secure and perpetrators face the harshest punishment.
