Mumbai: Maharashtra’s name should not feature in the list of road accidents in the country, Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray said today. He said Maharashtra ranks second in road accidents.

The CM, however, said, that he does not only want to bring down the road accidents in the state but also does not want the state’s name to feature in this list. “I want an accident-free Maharashtra”, he added.

Speaking after inaugurating the 32nd State Road Safety month, Thackeray said, it should not be only limited to a month but should be part of the lifestyle.

He also asked people to take care of animals while driving their cars as they become victims of a speeding car while crossing a road.

The Chief Minister said, with the inception of new technology, new high-speed vehicles are coming into the market, as a reason the information and public awareness about them should be done.

He also asked the authorities to ensure that accidents do not take in the first place. “Considering the steep turns and accident-prone spots, trauma care centre should be built. If unfortunately, an accident takes place then it would help in saving a life”, Thackeray asserted.

He further said that to ensure that traffic rules and discipline is followed, respective departments should coordinate among themselves. “School students should be imparted traffic rules”, he said.

The Chief Minister also felicitated district collectors who took efforts to bring down the cases of road accidents. The districts include Mumbai, Mumbai suburbs, Sindhudurg and Aurangabad.
