Chilling Premeditation: Sonam Raghuvanshi Was Ready to Push Husband Off Cliff Herself if Hired Killers Failed, Say Police

Indore: In a startling revelation in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, police sources have claimed that Sonam Raghuvanshi, the woman accused of orchestrating the killing of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was so intent on eliminating him that she was prepared to do it herself if her hired accomplices failed.

According to information shared with India Today TV by investigators, Sonam reportedly told her alleged lover and co-conspirator Raj Kushwaha, “If Vishal, Anand, and Akash are not able to kill Raja, I will push him down the mountain while taking a photo.”

The murder plot, police say, began just days after Sonam returned to her parental home in Indore on May 15—only four days after the couple’s wedding. From there, she allegedly booked tickets to Guwahati and meticulously planned the murder with Raj through a series of phone calls.

Investigators further revealed that Sonam had deliberately delayed physical intimacy with her husband by persuading him to first visit the Kamakhya temple in Assam, presenting it as a spiritual act of devotion. This move, police believe, was a strategic attempt to buy time and set the plan in motion.

On May 23, the couple checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village, Meghalaya. Ten days later, Raja’s decomposed body was recovered from a gorge roughly 20 km away. His gold chain and ring were missing, suggesting robbery as a cover-up. Police identified the murderers as Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), Akash Rajput (19), and Anand Kurmi—reportedly friends of Raj Kushwaha and hired by Sonam.

After the crime, Sonam disappeared, only to resurface on June 8 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered at the Nandganj police station. She had called her brother from a local eatery to disclose her location. Meanwhile, the other three accused were nabbed in a series of overnight raids across Uttar Pradesh, Indore, and Sagar. Raj Kushwaha, allegedly the central figure in the conspiracy along with Sonam, was arrested shortly afterward.
