Chennai: In a landmark judgment, the Chennai Mahila Court on Sunday sentenced A Gnanasekaran to life imprisonment for a minimum of 30 years in the infamous Anna University rape case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹90,000 on the convict.
The case pertains to the brutal sexual assault of a woman inside the Anna University campus, which had sparked widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu and triggered demands for fast-track justice. The survivor, a research scholar, was attacked by Gnanasekaran, who was working as a contractual staffer on campus.
