Mumbai: In a bid to control the spread of diseases like Covid-19, monsoon related disease like Dengue, Malaria and to educate about the benefits of vaccination of each and every people in the municipal ward, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) R North ward (Dahisar West) Medical Officer Health (MOH) will be starting a video call conferencing facility to connect with the residents of the civic ward.
On the first day of the initiative two sessions will be held for the residents of corporators wise. On the first day, residents of wards of Shiv sena corporators Sheetal Mhatre and Sujata Patekar will be held.
According to Dr Avinash Waydande, Medical Officer Health (MOH) R North, the numbers of people falling prey to the monsoon related disease are coming more from the non-slum areas and high-rise buildings. This initiative will start from Sunday. On the first day there will be two sessions in the evening.
“From tomorrow onwards in R North ward will be starting with the initiative of Online Zoom sensitisation sessions for the housing societies, private medical practitioners and Nursing homes etc. regarding Covid-19, Malaria, Dengue and other monsoon related diseases. In this session, we will be educating and spreading awareness amongst the people. Precautionary information will be given regarding Covid-19, Malaria, Dengue and other monsoon related diseases, the testing centres for Covid-19, Malaria, Dengue and importance of Covid-19 vaccination and vaccination centres nearby will be given and also queries and difficulties of the society representatives will be resolved. In this way, without gathering any crowd, we will be educating people and solve their issues if any”, added Dr Avinash Vaydande.
There are issues with the high-rise buildings and elite housing societies as they do not give entry to BMC staff when gone for inspection or any awareness programme, and due to which people from these areas are at high risk of contracting monsoon related diseases, said a senior officer from the BMC.
Tomorrow two sessions will be taken by the R North office, which will include local corporator R North, MOH, chairman/ secretary of the housing societies.
Speaking to thenews21 about the initiative Shiv Sena corporator, Sheetal Mhatre, remarked, “It is a very useful and important way to interact with the society office barriers as they can speak out their queries and also give suggestions and inform us about their problems. Also, we can get an accurate figure of how many members of the society are yet to be vaccinated. Earlier, when Covid-19 was at its peak, we use to interact to the officials by video conferencing only, definitely this will bridge the gap between the residents and us (BMC) and the most important of it all is that they will get to know about the precautionary steps recommended by the Doctors in the zoom meeting. Also, as we have conducted special drives for auto drivers, women etc. What else residents need we can hear from them without violating the Covid-19 protocol rules set by the BMC”.
After getting a good response by this means of communication by the societies and private practitioner’s etc. This initiative can be started in all the rest of the 24 wards of the BMC.
