Mumbai’s civic administration is set to present the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Budget 2025-26 on February 4, with a strong emphasis on large-scale infrastructure projects, healthcare, and citizen welfare initiatives. Additionally, the budget will focus on sewage treatment and environmental sustainability, with a significant allocation towards seven new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), a project worth ₹30,000 crore aimed at improving wastewater management.
Following last year’s record budget of ₹59,954.75 crore, which included ₹1,200 crore for free medicines in civic hospitals, this year’s budget is expected to continue prioritizing public healthcare improvements. The previous allocation for healthcare saw a notable rise from ₹6,309 crore to ₹7,191 crore, and further enhancements are anticipated.
With public feedback from 2,700 citizens, concerns regarding the declining quality of BEST bus services have been highlighted, suggesting a potential increase in funding to revamp Mumbai’s public transport system. Additionally, ₹100 crore was allocated last year for women’s security, and a similar push is expected this year to enhance safety measures across the city.
Apart from major projects, the budget will also focus on footpath, lane, and bylane upgrades, with an expected allocation similar to last year’s ₹340 crore. Civic officials have indicated that the upcoming financial plan will maintain a strong commitment to infrastructure, healthcare, and public welfare, shaping Mumbai’s urban development for the coming year.
