Mumbai: With preparations gaining momentum for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) General Elections 2025–26, the civic administration has initiated early coordination with political parties to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process. A comprehensive review meeting was held at the BMC headquarters, bringing together election officials and representatives from various political parties.
The meeting was led by Municipal Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani, who shared the broad framework and preparedness plan for the upcoming civic elections. He underlined that the administration is fully geared to conduct elections that are fair, transparent, fearless and disciplined, in line with democratic principles.
Gagrani emphasised that political parties and their workers play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the election process. He appealed to all stakeholders to strictly follow the Model Code of Conduct laid down by the State Election Commission, stating that adherence to the rules would help build public trust and ensure a positive electoral environment.
Senior civic officials, including Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr Ashwini Joshi, Special Officer (Elections) Vijay Balmawar, and other senior officers from assessment, collection and election departments, were present at the meeting. Their presence highlighted the administration’s focus on detailed planning and coordination.
Representatives of multiple political parties actively participated in the discussions, raising queries related to election procedures and compliance requirements. Civic officials provided clarity on key stages of the election process such as filing of nominations, scrutiny procedures, objection handling and daily election-related operations.
The administration also briefed participants on planned voter awareness initiatives aimed at encouraging informed and active participation by Mumbai’s citizens in the civic polls.
Several technical issues were discussed during the interaction, including documentation related to caste validity certificates, toilet usage certificates, election forms and the appointment of authorised candidates’ representatives. Officials assured political parties that guidance and assistance would be provided wherever required to ensure smooth compliance.
