BJP will continue its fight for OBC reservation: Devendra Fadnavis

@the_news_21

Pune: Leader of the opposition in Maharashtra legislative assembly Devendra Fadnavis Friday said that his party would continue its fight on the issue of OBC reservation.

Talking to reporters, Fadnavis alleged that the state government is “dragging its feet” till February 2022 as election to 3/4th of local bodies are to take place in the state then.

He sought to know from the government as to what steps it took between December 13, 2019, and March 4, 2021.

“The work of collecting empirical data is of mere 4 months. This work could be done easily. I told them that if they are unable to do it, then give reign in my hands, I will do it. Whatever we say we do”, he added.

Commenting on BJP leader Pankaja Munde’s statement, the former chief minister said, he and newly inducted Union Minister Dr Bhagwat Karad were trained under the late Gopinath Munde.

“The stand taken by Pankajatai is the stand of the BJP. First the nation, then party and lastly the individual”, he said.

Earlier, today BJP leader Pankaja Munde broke her silence on her sister, Pritam, a two-time MP from the Beed District of Maharashtra, not finding a place in the new cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Giving a full stop to the murmurs within a faction of BJP and the opposition, Pankaja stated that she believed ‘the party might have taken the right decision by inducting the right people in the cabinet.

She said the party’s belief is to put the nation first, and then the party’s interest and lastly individual interests, and both Pankaja and Pritam have always abided by that dictum.

She further added that she is not unhappy just because her sister Pritam did not get a place in the cabinet expansion. Media reports claim that Pankaja said that they were not hoping for ministership and even congratulated Bhagwat Karad on his induction.

Taking a dig at rival parties over the formation of new cooperation ministry in the Union Government, Fadnavis said, ”When there was no cooperation ministry at Centre, then accusations were made that government is strangulating cooperation sector. Now, after 70 years when this new ministry has been created then they are saying how cooperation has any relations with Centre?” he said.

Fadnavis expressed confidence that this new ministry of cooperation will benefit Maharashtra immensely.

On the portfolio of Cooperation given to Union home minister Amit Shah, the former chief minister said, “Before coming into politics, Amitbhai Shah was working in cooperation sector. The work he has done in this sector in Gujarat is huge. Therefore, naturally the portfolio was given to him”.

On the suspension of 12 MLAs of BJP from legislative assembly for one year in the recently concluded Maharashtra Legislature Session, Fadnavis said, with the responsibility he wants to place it on record that no BJP MLA abused the Presiding Officer (Bhaskar Jadhav), adding that he will reveal it at the right time.
