The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly considering fielding former Union Minister Smriti Irani as its candidate for the Greater Kailash assembly seat in the upcoming Delhi elections. This move comes as the party looks to challenge the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) incumbent minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, who is seen as a popular figure in the constituency.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the BJP’s Delhi unit views Smriti Irani as a charismatic leader who could make a strong impact in Greater Kailash, potentially closing the gap against a well-known leader like Bharadwaj. The BJP has already declared 59 out of its 70 candidates for the upcoming elections and is now focused on identifying strong contenders for the remaining seats, including Greater Kailash.

Saurabh Bharadwaj, who currently holds the seat, is regarded as a key figure in the area, and the BJP has held multiple rounds of discussions regarding the contest in this constituency. Irani’s name has reportedly come up alongside three other women leaders for the Greater Kailash seat, signaling the BJP’s efforts to find a suitable candidate to take on Bharadwaj.

This strategic move could add an interesting dynamic to the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, as both parties look to consolidate their positions in the capital.
