BJP Unveils Rajya Sabha Candidates Across Key States Ahead of June 18 Polls

BJP Finalises Upper House Line-Up for Upcoming Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a fresh set of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections, setting the stage for an important contest that will determine representation in the Upper House of Parliament.

The party’s latest list features a mix of experienced leaders, organisational figures and regional representatives from several states, reflecting its strategy to strengthen its parliamentary presence ahead of the elections scheduled for June 18.

Senior Leaders Among Key Nominees

One of the notable names on the BJP’s list is Tarun Chugh, who has been nominated from Madhya Pradesh. He will be joined by Rajneesh Agrawal as the party’s candidate from the state.

In Rajasthan, the BJP has chosen Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar to represent the party in the Rajya Sabha race.

The nominations underline the party’s focus on balancing organisational experience with regional representation.

Candidates Announced Across Northeastern States

The BJP has also selected leaders from the Northeast as part of its parliamentary strategy.

From Arunachal Pradesh, the party has fielded Tai Tagak, while A. Sharda Devi has been nominated from Manipur.

The selections are being viewed as part of the party’s continued emphasis on strengthening its political footprint in the northeastern region.

Gujarat Gets Four BJP Nominees

In Gujarat, the BJP has announced a four-member slate comprising:

  • Rajubhai Shukla
  • Mukeshbhai Rathwa
  • Mansingh Parmar
  • Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanzariya

The state remains one of the BJP’s strongest political bases, making the Rajya Sabha contests there particularly significant.

Odisha By-Election Candidate Also Named

Alongside the biennial elections, the BJP has also announced its nominee for the Rajya Sabha by-election in Odisha.

The party has selected Debashish Samantaray, who recently exited the Biju Janata Dal before joining the BJP fold.

His nomination is expected to add another layer of political interest to the Odisha contest.

Focus on Strengthening Presence in Parliament

The Rajya Sabha elections on June 18 will cover 24 seats spread across 10 states, while by-elections for two additional seats are also scheduled on the same day.

With the latest candidate list, the BJP has signalled its intention to maintain and potentially expand its influence in the Upper House. Political observers believe the elections will be closely watched as parties seek to consolidate their parliamentary strength ahead of future legislative battles and national political developments.
