In a major political development ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reportedly offered the post of Deputy Chief Minister to actor-politician Vijay if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comes to power in the state.

According to sources quoted by India Today, the BJP has also proposed allocating around 80 Assembly seats to Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as part of a potential seat-sharing arrangement.

Talks between the BJP and TVK have reportedly entered the final phase, indicating that a major political alliance could soon emerge before the high-stakes elections.

Negotiations Reach Crucial Stage

Sources told India Today that discussions between the BJP and Vijay’s party have intensified in recent weeks as both sides explore the possibility of forming an alliance under the NDA banner.

While the BJP has reportedly offered the Deputy Chief Minister’s position, Vijay is also believed to be aspiring for the Chief Minister’s post, which remains a crucial part of the ongoing negotiations.

If the alliance materialises, it could significantly reshape the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, where elections often see close contests and narrow victory margins.

BJP Banking on Vijay’s Massive Popularity

The BJP’s outreach to Vijay is largely driven by the actor’s huge fan base across Tamil Nadu. Political strategists within the party believe that even a small portion of his supporters shifting towards the NDA could influence several constituencies.

Sources told India Today that BJP leaders believe “even two per cent votes can change the direction of victory” in many seats in Tamil Nadu. Historically, the state has witnessed numerous elections where candidates have won by very slim margins.

Because of this, even a marginal shift in vote share could prove decisive in determining the outcome of the Assembly elections.

Backchannel Talks and Negotiators

The BJP has reportedly been using multiple channels to establish communication with Vijay since his entry into active politics.

According to sources cited by India Today, one of the strategies involves a Deputy Chief Minister from another state acting as an intermediary in the negotiations with Vijay.

These backchannel discussions have played an important role in bringing both sides closer to a possible alliance ahead of the polls.

Concerns Within Vijay’s Camp

Despite the political opportunities an NDA alliance might offer, the idea is reportedly creating concerns among some of Vijay’s close advisers.

Sources said sections of his inner circle fear that joining an established national alliance too early could impact the credibility of his newly launched political platform.

Vijay entered politics projecting himself as an independent and fresh alternative in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Advisers worry that aligning with a major national alliance like the NDA could weaken that narrative and affect the party’s identity among voters.

For now, negotiations continue, and political observers say the final decision could have major implications for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
