New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, accusing him of showing no seriousness in his constitutional role and spreading misinformation over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Dubey criticised Gandhi for his low attendance, lack of engagement in legislative affairs, and frequent media appearances with what he called “superficial” statements.
Speaking during the heated Parliament session, Dubey said, “Rahul Gandhi is the only Leader of Opposition in the history of independent India who wants nothing to do with the interests of the country. Have you ever seen him take up serious issues with consistency? He appears for two minutes before the media and then disappears. His attendance in several important sessions is zero.” He also said that Gandhi does not understand the basic rules of Parliament and referred to Rule 349, which requires members to stay in the House after speaking. “He should learn how the House works. If not from anyone else, then at least from Mallikarjun Kharge,” he added.
Dubey’s attack followed Rahul Gandhi’s explosive statement to the media a day earlier, where he claimed large-scale voter list manipulation and alleged that “elections are being stolen in India.” He cited the removal of over 52 lakh voters from Bihar’s electoral rolls, and similar irregularities in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission refused to provide access to footage or updated electoral rolls, and accused the body of changing rules to shield malpractice. “They cheated in Maharashtra. We asked them to show the voters’ list. They didn’t. We requested videos. They changed the rules. They stole the elections. Maharashtra alone had one crore new voters,” Gandhi said.
He further alleged that the SIR was being misused to rig elections and that a deep-dive investigation into a single constituency exposed the methods used to introduce new voters strategically. According to him, ever since the opposition figured out the “game,” the system was being rapidly overhauled to escape scrutiny.
Responding to these claims, Dubey said Gandhi seemed unaware that the SIR system was first formalised during the tenure of his father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and was again implemented in 2003. “He is attacking a process that his own father institutionalised. This shows his complete lack of understanding of legislative history,” Dubey argued. He also brought up Operation Sindoor, stating that the provisional report indicates a win and added, “The permanent report will be filed the day we take over Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK).”
