Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA from Mumbai Yogesh Sagar have written a letter to BMC administrator Iqbal Singh Chahal citing the issue of unequal water distribution in Mumbai City.

Sagar who represents Western suburban Mumbai in the Maharashtra State assembly believes that every year in May Mumbai City including the suburban part of the city faces a water cut. This further causes a lot of problems for residents. Hence, he has suggested that equal water distribution should happen as per the density of the population. Sagar has also demanded that Chahal should discuss this issue with the Guardian Minister of Mumbai suburban Aditya Thackeray.

According to the letter written by Yogesh Sagar, He has raised this issue in the lower house of the Maharashtra State Assembly. “I was Corporator in the year 2000 and since then I am talking about this issue and raising it at all BMC platforms that equal water distribution should happen as per the density of population in Mumbai City and Mumbai suburban area.

He added that even when he became MLA in 2009, he had raised this issue on the floor of the State Assembly. Sagar further writes that “You will be meeting Minister Aditya Thackeray soon on the same issue. Thus, I want you to resolve the issue as early as possible. Even today, if there is any issue related to the subject of water, officials from that Department of BMC seek my help and discuss the issue with me.”

Sagar also states in his letter that in the previous government when Devendra Fadnavis was Chief Minister of the State, he made a presentation to the BMC’s committee of experts regarding the same issue and the said committee has given its report to the BMC and State Government.

“I have got to just to keep the minister happy you will be calling a meeting on the issue of water distribution but I request you to call all MLAs from Mumbai in the same meeting. The MLAs know the ground reality and together we all will try to resolve this issue,” said Sagar in his letter.
