‘TMC Trailing in Muslim Booths Not Possible, EVMs Have Been Hacked’: Party Leader Flags Bengal Counting Trends

Controversy Erupts Over Early Counting Patterns
As vote counting progresses in the West Bengal Assembly elections, a political controversy has surfaced after Madhuparna Thakur of the All India Trinamool Congress questioned the early trends. Reacting to initial data, she said, “TMC trailing in Muslim booths is not possible; this indicates that EVMs have been hacked.” Her remarks came at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party began gaining ground in several constituencies.

Shift in Muslim-Majority Constituencies
Preliminary numbers indicate a notable change in voting patterns, particularly in constituencies with a significant Muslim population. Out of nearly 43 such seats where Muslim voters form a majority, the TMC and its allies are currently ahead in around 30 seats. This marks a decline compared to their dominant performance in the previous election cycle.

The BJP, which had struggled to make an impact in these constituencies earlier, is now leading in multiple seats, signaling a potential shift in electoral behaviour. Other parties are also managing to secure a presence, further fragmenting what was once a consolidated vote base.

BJP Sees Strategic Gains
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari interpreted the trends as a broader political shift. He stated that the results reflect a consolidation of support for the BJP alongside divisions in traditional voting blocs. Expressing confidence, he said, “The BJP will form the government with more than 180 seats,” crediting the party’s momentum to the leadership of Narendra Modi.

A More Competitive Electoral Landscape
The emerging trends suggest that West Bengal’s electoral map could be undergoing a significant transformation. While the TMC continues to hold a lead in several of these constituencies, the reduced margin and increased competition highlight a changing political dynamic in regions once considered strongholds.
