Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused the Congress of running and amplifying its X (formerly Twitter) ecosystem through accounts allegedly operated from foreign countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States. The party claimed these accounts were being used to push negative narratives against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the RSS, and the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said several X handles linked to the Congress had either changed their listed locations to India or hidden them entirely after the platform rolled out new transparency features.
Patra alleged that many of these foreign-based accounts were involved in a coordinated attempt to discredit the ECI by amplifying Congress’ accusations of “vote chori”. He further claimed that a number of the profiles calling for Rahul Gandhi to become prime minister were not genuine users but “fake IDs” created specifically for political propaganda.
Quoting Patra, news agency ANI reported him saying: “To demean PM Modi and RSS, and to promote Rahul Gandhi, accounts based in foreign countries are working.”
He added, “People in Singapore are working to make Rahul Gandhi the PM. They are neither voters nor Indians… People from West Asia, Singapore, Pakistan and Bangladesh are supporting Rahul Gandhi. He is getting certificates of greatness from foreign countries.”
