Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators led by group leader Prabhakar Shinde on Monday, protested outside Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal’s office in Gandhigiri style by offering roses. 

The BJP accused Shiv Sena of using its power to make unjust changes to the electoral ward data that suits according to them, by changing the pen drive over night that had the details of the electoral ward structure prepared by an external private agency, with the connivance of the municipal commissioner by forming an electoral ward structure that will be suitable for Sena during the ensuing 2022 BMC elections. 

According to Shinde, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal under political pressure has helped the Shiv Sena by going out of the way by harassing the senior officers of the corporation and violating the democratic rules and directives.

For the upcoming BMC elections, the ward administration plan has been submitted to the State Election Commission by Corporation.  In this, illegal alterations have been made in the boundaries of the wards for political convenience and this reorganization will be inconvenient for Mumbaikars. The BJP has also claimed that major changes have been made in several electoral wards in the western suburbs.

“BMC commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal under political pressure has helped Sena going out of the way by harassing the senior officers of the corporation and violating the democratic rules and directives.  The State Election Commission is an autonomous body, and we have written a letter demanding it to the State Election Commission. The SEC should take steps in this regard and verify the ward plan impartially. Otherwise, there will be intense agitation on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” said Prabhakar Shinde, BJP group leader in BMC.
