In a surprising development that has set the political circles in Bihar abuzz, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s potential return to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is reportedly in the works, causing speculation and uncertainty within the ruling JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance. Sources of Indian Express suggest that the swearing-in ceremony for the Bihar Chief Minister, with the backing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is “more or less finalized,” signaling a potential upheaval in the existing political landscape.

According Indian Express, the oath-taking ceremony is slated for Sunday, with Sushil Kumar Modi expected to assume the role of deputy Chief Minister.

As rumors of a deepening rift within the alliance gain traction, both the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and JD(U) held separate meetings on Thursday. Simultaneously, BJP state president Samrat Choudhary, accompanied by former BJP deputy chief minister Renu Devi, left for Delhi to engage in discussions with top BJP leaders.

Despite the RJD downplaying the possibility of Nitish Kumar’s exit, and no official word from the Congress, the INDIA bloc parties are gearing up for potential ramifications should one of its key leaders make a significant political shift. Notably, if Nitish Kumar decides to cross over to the NDA, it would mark the fourth instance of him switching political alliances.

From the BJP’s perspective, at least three state leaders have expressed that such a move would be a “win-win” situation for the party. It is perceived as not only boosting morale within the BJP but also strategically undermining the INDIA bloc at the national level.

As reported by The Indian Express, the current composition of the Bihar Assembly, consisting of 243 seats, includes 79 MLAs from the RJD, 78 from the BJP, 45 from the JD(U), 19 from the Congress, 12 from the CPI (M-L), two each from the CPI(M) and CPI, four from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and one from the AIMIM. Additionally, there is one Independent legislator.

The unfolding political dynamics in Bihar, as reported by The Indian Express, indicate a significant and potentially transformative moment that could reshape the political narrative in the state. The ensuing days are likely to witness heightened political activity and strategic moves as key players navigate the evolving landscape.
