Lakhisarai: The first phase of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 saw tensions flare on Thursday when the convoy of Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Sinha came under attack in Lakhisarai. Reports indicate that supporters of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) surrounded Sinha’s vehicle, hurled stones, slippers, and cow dung, and shouted “Murdabad” slogans while blocking his movement. Police personnel intervened promptly to secure the convoy and disperse the crowd.
Speaking after the incident, Deputy CM Sinha accused the RJD of using intimidation tactics to disrupt voting. He alleged that RJD supporters prevented his polling agents from entering booths in Khoriari village, including booths 404 and 405, and barred them from voting. “The mindset of RJD people is still that of booth capturing. But the voters are the real masters,” Sinha said, calling RJD and Congress “symbols of anarchy.”
Earlier in the day, Sinha visited Maa Jagdamba temple in Lakhisarai to offer prayers before casting his vote.
The first phase of polling, which began at 7 am, covers 121 constituencies across 18 districts. By 11 am, the Election Commission recorded a voter turnout of 27.65%. Other incidents during the day included a clash between two groups in Siwan, which left a supporter of a candidate injured, and the arrest of two youths, Keshav Kumar and Saurabh Kumar, in Darbhanga for alleged fraudulent voting at booth 172 in Laghma village.
Bihar minister Mangal Pandey described the polling as largely peaceful, stating, “People across Siwan are enthusiastically going to polling stations to cast their votes for development. The NDA is very strong.”
