Srinagar: World Bicycle Day is observed throughout the world on June 8. It was in April 2018, when the United Nations for the first time adopted June 3 as the World Bicycle Day. This day is celebrated to lay emphasis on the benefits of riding a bicycle, for health and environment.

The Indian Army in its continuous efforts to connect the youth of Kupwara and bring them into the mainstream of nation building had organised a Bicycle Rally on Friday in Kalaroos. This was organised to mark the World Bicycle Day and also the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav being celebrated throughout the country. More than 50 students participated in this event with the spark in their eye to contribute towards a sustainable environment and also to make locals aware of the benefits of cycling.

The students rode their bicycles for over a stretch of 7 Kms from Thayan to Nagsari in Kalaroos which was the first event of its kind in their lives. At the culmination of the rally, the participants were felicitated by the Indian Army and were encouraged and motivated to participate in such events that will be planned in future for them.
