Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly rejected allegations linked to a controversial viral video, a day after the Akal Takht declared him “Guru Dokhi” and “Panth Virodhi” over the matter.
Breaking his silence on the controversy, Mann said the person seen in the video is not him and accused his political opponents of using the issue to damage his image.
Mann Rejects Video Allegations
In a video statement, the Chief Minister said he had already clarified before religious authorities that he does not appear in the viral clip.
Mann insisted that the individual shown in the footage bears no resemblance to him and questioned why such allegations were being repeated despite his explanation.
He maintained that the video should not be used as evidence against him and said attempts were being made to spread misinformation.
Accuses Rivals of Political Targeting
The Punjab Chief Minister alleged that the controversy was being fuelled by political interests seeking to tarnish his reputation.
According to Mann, false narratives are being circulated to create confusion and controversy around him. He claimed that certain individuals were acting under political influence and using the issue to launch attacks against him.
Akal Takht’s Action Sparks Debate
The row escalated after Sikh clergy at the Akal Takht took a strong stand against Mann, accusing him of making misleading claims regarding the video.
Religious authorities reportedly concluded that the footage was genuine after examining forensic reports, leading to the declaration against the Chief Minister.
The decision has triggered a fresh political and religious debate in Punjab, with supporters and critics taking opposing positions on the issue.
Viral Video Remains at Centre of Controversy
The dispute revolves around a video that allegedly shows a person resembling Mann engaging in an act considered offensive by sections of the Sikh community.
While Mann has repeatedly maintained that the clip does not feature him, the controversy has continued to generate political reactions across the state.
