Srinagar: Security forces on Thursday foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir, killing two terrorists in a fierce gunfight.

According to defence officials, the incident occurred near Naushehra Naar, where troops deployed along the frontier picked up suspicious movement during the early hours. When challenged, the infiltrators opened indiscriminate fire, triggering an encounter. The Army retaliated effectively, neutralising both terrorists on the spot.

“Based on intelligence inputs from Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding possible infiltration, a joint operation was launched. Troops maintained strict vigil, detected movement, and engaged terrorists who tried to sneak in. Two infiltrators were eliminated and the attempt was foiled,” the Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed in an official statement.

A search and sanitisation operation has been launched in the area to ensure no additional terrorists managed to cross over. Security forces remain on high alert, given the recent spike in infiltration bids across the northern districts of Kashmir.

This encounter comes just weeks after Operation Akhal in Kangan area of Ganderbal, where six terrorists were killed in a prolonged gun battle that also left one soldier injured. On August 2, three militants were gunned down in the Akhal forest area, highlighting the renewed push by terror groups to infiltrate across the LoC before winter closes the mountain passes.
