Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar created a stir in the State Assembly on Thursday after he lost his cool upon spotting RJD MLA Kumar Krishna Mohan alias Suday Yadav using a mobile phone inside the House.

Visibly angered, Nitish Kumar demanded strict enforcement of the ban on mobile phones in the Assembly. Addressing the Speaker, he declared, “It is already banned in the House. I request you (Speaker) that whoever comes with a mobile phone should be thrown out of the House.”

Taking his argument further, Kumar linked mobile phone usage to a global catastrophe, stating, “Earlier, we used to see this a lot. We knew there would be trouble, so we stopped it in 2019. If this continues, the world will end in the next 10 years.” His remarks quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from the opposition.

Opposition Slams Nitish Kumar’s ‘Illogical’ Remarks

Leaders from opposition parties lashed out at Nitish Kumar, mocking his statement and accusing him of being anti-technology and regressive.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi took to social media, writing, “What did I hear just now? A CM stating in Assembly that the world shall end in ten years because of mobile phones? There’s a limit to madness and speaking nonsense!”

Leader of Opposition and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also launched a scathing attack on the Bihar CM, calling him an “Illiterate CM.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tejashwi wrote, “The world will end in 10 years because of mobile phones” – Honorable Shri Shri Nitish Kumar. In an effort to make the Assembly paperless from an environmental perspective, an online system has been introduced for answering questions. If any honorable member wishes to ask a supplementary question, they must refer to their mobile or tablet. However, Bihar’s computer-illiterate Chief Minister has an issue with that as well.”

He further accused Nitish Kumar of being against youth, students, and women, stating, “It is unfortunate that Bihar has such a regressive, outdated Chief Minister who is not only against technology but also opposes youth, students, and women. Shameful!”

RJD Hits Back: ‘We Are Not School Students’

RJD MLA Bhai Virendra also reacted sharply to Nitish Kumar’s remarks, questioning his double standards on the use of mobile phones in the Assembly.

“We are not school students. We are MLAs and represent a section of people in the Bihar Assembly. Nitish Kumar is accusing us, but he should first stop his legislators and ministers who also use mobile phones to give answers inside the House,” he told IANS.

Political Firestorm Over Mobile Phone Ban

The controversy over mobile phone usage in the Assembly has now turned into a major political flashpoint in Bihar, with opposition parties accusing Nitish Kumar of trying to suppress discussions and avoid accountability in the House.
