Back-to-Back BEST Bus Mishaps Jolt Mumbai; Minor Injuries Reported in Goregaon Crash

Mumbai: Two separate mishaps involving Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses disrupted morning routines in Mumbai this week, raising safety concerns among daily commuters.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Goregaon’s Aarey Colony Road when a BEST bus collided with a pickup truck during peak hours. The impact caused several passengers to suffer minor injuries, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Local authorities swiftly reached the spot, assisting the injured and working to ease the resulting traffic congestion.

Preliminary investigations by the Aarey Police suggest the crash may have been due to sudden lane merging in the dense morning traffic. Although there were no major injuries, medical teams monitored the affected passengers at nearby clinics, while traffic police were deployed to restore order on the busy stretch.

In a separate incident on Monday, another BEST bus narrowly avoided disaster when the road beneath it caved in near the Thakurdwar signal in South Mumbai. The mishap occurred around 9:30 AM near an active construction site for Mumbai Metro Line 3 near Girgaon Metro Station.

The rear wheel of the Route No. 121 bus—operating between Backbay Depot and J. Mehta Marg—sank into a cavity that suddenly formed beneath the road. Authorities believe the cave-in was triggered by underground water seepage from a nearby rehabilitation building project overseen by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL).

No injuries were reported in the Thakurdwar incident, though the partial road collapse briefly disrupted traffic in the area. Civic engineers and Metro officials were called in for inspection and repair work began immediately to prevent further risk.
